As a **Product Manager - Query Processing **at Firebolt, you will be responsible for the evolution of Firebolt’s query engine, focusing on both query processing performance and SQL dialect enhancements. Your work will empower data-driven applications to run complex, high-concurrency queries with sub-second response times. This role requires a deep understanding of fundamentals of database, SQL, and data processing needs, and you will play a central role in defining Firebolt's SQL dialect to improve usability, compatibility, and performance for data engineers and analysts. ### **Key Responsibilities:** - **SQL Dialect Development: Collaborate with engineering to evolve Firebolt's SQL dialect, adding support for new SQL commands and enhancing syntax to ensure compatibility and ease of use. Drive decisions on SQL dialect extensions based on market and customer needs, ensuring they align with Firebolt’s architecture and performance objectives​.** - **Help Define Query Processing Strategy: Shape the roadmap for query processing, including improvements in query performance, scalability, and efficiency to support Firebolt’s sub-second analytics goals.** - **Product Lifecycle Management: Manage the product lifecycle for query processing and SQL features from ideation through implementation, working closely with engineering and UX teams.** - **Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal stakeholders, including engineering, customer success, and documentation teams, to ensure alignment on SQL dialect modifications and query processing advancements.** - **Market & Customer Research: Gather feedback from users and the market to identify SQL dialect gaps or performance bottlenecks, translating these insights into actionable features and enhancements.** - **Documentation and Training: Ensure all new SQL dialect features and query processing improvements are well-documented, and support internal and external training on these enhancements.** ## **REQUIREMENTS** ### **Required Skills and Qualifications:** - **Experience: Minimum 5 years of product management experience, with at least 2 years focused on SQL or query optimization in a data warehouse or analytics environment.** - **SQL Knowledge: Deep understanding of SQL syntax, including DML operations and complex query patterns. Experience with SQL dialect customization or compatibility adjustments in distributed or cloud data warehouses is highly beneficial.** - **Technical Acumen: Knowledge of SQL dialect extension.** - **Analytical Skills: Ability to track key performance metrics for query processing and SQL features, making data-driven decisions to refine performance and usability.** - **Communication: Excellent communication skills for conveying complex SQL dialect modifications and query optimization requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders.** - **Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in database management or data engineering are beneficial.** ### **Preferred Qualifications:** - **Experience with SQL dialects, especially in cloud data warehouse environments, and familiarity with optimizing SQL for analytical workloads.** - **Knowledge of ACID-compliant transactional processing, especially in distributed systems, to support robust query processing and DML operations​​.** - **Familiarity with query optimization techniques and high-concurrency query handling is a plus.**
